about linda butti

A New York City native, artist Linda Butti was raised  in the Bath Beach section of Brooklyn, NY. Her grandfather, an
immigrant from Italy,  was a  builder and her father a craftsman.  Linda is the third generation artist in her family.
"I remember spending a good deal of my childhood days 'hanging"out the window and watching the building going on
around me. Ours was a neighborhood in transition, from blocks of marshes and sea grass to newly built brick homes.
I loved watching the workmen lay down the bricks in the thick viscous cement, and then build them up row by row
until a wall emerged. In the evening, I'd get to watch my father  work in the basement, making gorgeous accordion
bellows .....He'd take a plain piece of thick cardboard and through process after process, magically make a highly
decorative four sided bellow appear....!  I loved the smell of the glue he'd have cooking on the two burner stove and
watching him cut strips of colored sateen on a glue board into fabulous stripes and attach them to the bellows......"
